One of the most common questions we receive is: "Will this battery work with my inverter?" Communication protocol mismatch is the #1 cause of installation failure in residential energy storage. This guide explains exactly which inverters are compatible with BESTAR batteries.
How Battery-Inverter Communication Works
Modern energy storage systems use CAN bus (Controller Area Network) or RS485 protocols to exchange data between the battery BMS and the inverter. This enables the inverter to read the battery state of charge, control charging current, and manage safety parameters in real time.
BESTAR batteries support both CAN and RS485 protocols with configurable pinouts, ensuring broad compatibility across the inverter ecosystem.
Fully Compatible Inverter Brands
The following brands have been tested and verified with BESTAR BMS communication:
- Deye / Sunsynk — CAN protocol, RS485 backup. Most popular pairing worldwide.
- Growatt — CAN communication, Pylontech protocol emulation.
- Goodwe — CAN bus with proprietary Goodwe protocol support.
- Victron Energy — CAN bus via VE.Can interface with Victron GX device.
- Luxpower — CAN and RS485 dual support.
- SMA — CAN bus with Sunny Island protocol.
- Voltronic / Axpert — RS485 communication, widely used in off-grid systems.
- Sofar Solar — CAN protocol support.
- SRNE — RS485 communication.
- Studer — CAN bus compatibility.
Wiring Configuration
BESTAR BMS uses a standard RJ45 connector with the following pinout:
- Pin 1 & 2: CAN-H / CAN-L
- Pin 4 & 5: RS485-A / RS485-B
- Pin 7 & 8: Ground
A custom cable or adapter may be required depending on your inverter brand. We provide pre-made communication cables for all supported inverters at no extra charge.
